In this particular study it was clear that no one at the college whose job it was to assign the TA positions was noticing, or making the decisions “fairly,” or giving positions to the grad students who excelled. The men asked, the men got. The women waited to be offered the position, and lost out. Raphaella immediately re-wrote her Women’s empowerment affirmation to begin with the words, “Women can speak up.” She went on to spread the word to women everywhere to stand up and ask for what they want.
