"New Bud" is a print of an original painting by Raphaella Vaisseau (watercolor with ink on paper). Painting this flower was to Raphaella an organic process of unfolding color adjacent to color while at the same time capturing the essence of a cross section of the plant itself. This painting is often said to be reminiscent of the close up floral creations of Georgia O'Keeffe. Raphaella's paintings are named upon completion. She hears or feels the essence of the word or words the piece calls forth. When she completed this painting, the words from Ecclesiastes 3.1-8 rang in her heart and head ("For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die ... " etc). Thus, the title, "New Bud" which endeared this painting even deeper within her. It remains one of her favorites.
