APPRECIATING MOTHER is a print or poster of Raphaella Vaisseau's original poem for Mothers. Raphaella wrote this poem after discovering that her mother had quit nursing school back in the 40's, NOT because she wanted to, but because at that time married women were not permitted to be enrolled. (How could that be!?!?!) When Raphaella's father enlisted in the Marines during WWII, her mother and father got married. Even though she went to the U of Minn School of Nursing administration and petitioned to remain a student, they wouldn't permit a married woman to be a student there. Hearing this story got Raphaella thinking about other things she didn't know about her mother, and opened her heart and mind to explore the relationship with her Mother in a new light. This poem was the result.
Appreciate your mother. Celebrate your differences. Love each other.
