As our plane touched down in Miami, I was excited to see my parents and celebrate the turning of the New Year with them.
I gathered my things and prepared to bolt the second the seat belt sign was turned off.
So did everyone else. Bing!
Like racers off the starting blocks, we all rose and filled the aisle of the plane.
We were going nowhere until the doors were opened, yet I could see people eyeing their belongings in the overhead bins near me.
Confirming with a nod of a head, I reached for a bag and handed it to a woman in front of me. That started the ball rolling.
It was easy to pass a jacket, grab a small suitcase and facilitate connecting people with their things. It was fun. More fun than avoiding eye contact and
being impatient about the wait would have been. After it was done and the doors were opened, we all filed easily out of the plane.
I realized if I hadn't done that, all those people ahead of me would have
been blocking my path because their focus would have been to get to the overhead bins by me. I would have been delayed and everyone
would have been pushing and shoving to get to their things.
Voila! Helping each other helps ourselves.
